Pimnuch (Preme) PanmaHi! Welcome to my site.
My name is Pimnuch Panma. I was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. My culinary journey began when I was 7 years old. My mom taught me how to cook her version of KFC chicken, she called it KFR (I still don't know what that stands for). Since then, I had become the right hand to our family's head chef, my dad. My job began like any other restaurant apprentice, a dish washer, then a prep cook. In Thai culture, each meal would usually have at least 3 main dishes accompanying the rice. So, there was a lot of prepping involved. When I was 15 years old, I had an opportunity to study in Vermont as an exchange student for a year. It was one of the best experiences of my life. My host family was well-travelled, and very into home cooking. I remember my first morning, as I was walking into the kitchen for a glass of water, I saw a Thai oyster sauce bottle on the shelf. It made me cry from home sickness, but also from pride that our food found its way there. There, I gained more confidence to cook and bake on my own. It's like graduating from being a legumier to a chef. While in college, I was the girl who would bring freshly baked cookies to class. In 2012, I started working for my family's food business. I was in charge of recipe creation. My recipes are still used in our core products today. In late 2013, I relocated to Washington, DC. I got married, and continued my career in the food industry. I started teaching at a vocational cooking institute, CulinAerie and, simultaneously, working for Union Kitchen in 2015. I found love for both of my jobs. In 2017, I was named in "11 Of The Best Cooking Classes In And Around Washington" by DCist. That same year, I also became a buyer for Union Kitchen Grocery where I got to learn the retail aspect of food business. Our little family of three is now in Northern, VA. And I am embarking on an exciting new opportunity. |
